Shining night – contemporary American choral music

It was perhaps unfortunate timing for the choice of this theme for a concert but we had planned it well before the election of Donald Trump put America out of favour. So we ran with a tag line of 'Some things from America have always been great' and chose some fabulous music including Eric Whitacre's sublime 'When David heard that Absolom was slain' which I had been wanting for years to sing.
From the design side, suddenly a theme of overt stars and stripes didn't seem like such a hot idea, so the title 'Shining night' very nicely allowed me to play down the red, white and blue.
