Award-winning men's wool coat

I designed this men's outfit before I even applied to study fashion design. Inspired by my brother's motorcycle leathers, the pants and off-the-shoulder top, crafted in burgundy fine-wool suiting, feature top-stitched padding at elbows and knees. The charcoal wool coat is styled with monastic simplicity at the front, contrasting with luxurious deep box pleats across the back inspired by Elizabethan men's cloaks. I entered this outfit in the 1999 Australian Wool Fashion Awards in the sewing category because I didn't think I had the credentials to audaciously enter a design category. When my dad and I trekked out to Armidale for the awards night, we were stunned when the outfit won the menswear design category! I unfortunately sold it without having taken any other photos—this one was taken when the award-winners were paraded in the wool pavilion at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
